The bad news is that there might be too much choice if you’re trying to choose the best smartwatch to grace your wrist.
Amongst the best smartwatches to consider from the likes of Apple, Samsung, Huawei Fitbit, Fossil, Tag Heuer, Garmin, Skagen and LG.
It appears that choosing the best smartwatch from the best has become more and more difficult than ever before.

Best Smartwatch?... Apple Watch Series 4
- Over 30% larger display and 50% louder speaker
- Electrical and optical heart sensors
- Digital Crown with haptic feedback
- S4 SiP with faster 64-bit dual-core processor
- Improved accelerometer and gyroscope for fall detection
Apple Watch Series 4: Key specs and features
The Latest Apple Watch Series 4 comes as close to the perfect smartwatch as one can wish for in 2019 – Offering such power and versatility previously not seen before on a wrist wearable loaded up a huge range of features.
Even James Bond might wonder how on Earth has such tech made its way to everyman. The proverbial cat is out of the bag and there seems like no limit as to what might become possible from one birthday to another. The Apple Series is evolving from strenght to strength.
For those of us looking for just a simple smartwatch, the Series 4’s awe inspiring catalog of fitness, health and connected features might just be too overpowering to say the least.
This new Apple creation is easily able to transform itself from fitness tracker, sports watch and professional quality health device at your finger tips. With such qualities no wonder it is a favorite of the crowds.
Apple’s latest Series 4 Watches have raised the stakes on the playing field bringing a bigger screens of 40mm and 44mm sizes resp[ectively (in comparison to Series 3 sizes of 38mm and 42mm). That translates into a lot more space to grace the new software features of the watchOS 5.
The Apple Series 4 Watch incorporates the same core fitness and sports tracking features of the Series 3, including the built-in GPS for tracking of outdoor activities and workouts as well as being designed so that swimmers may find it suitable.
Fitbit fitness trackers can be argued to still lead Apple in terms of fitness tracking analysis, despite Apple’s system having its own merits.
Apple has its own unique goals system for motivation of users signified by the closing of the Move, Stand and Calorie rings – This system has proven to be a powerful motivator for users. The Apple Series 4 still does not have native sleep tracking built-in, but this can be easily resolved via a third party app.
Probably one of the best features of this new Apple Series 4 smartwatch is the new ECG monitor will able to offer professional quality health monitoring. The FDA has passed it, so this feature is useful to detect heart rhythm irregularities (supported in the US for now).
What’s more the smart Apple does all this automatically as it continuously monitors for low and high heart readings, as well as AFib. Another new feature is the SOS feature with fall detection mode that allows users to contact emergency services or an emergency contact via Siri commands.
The Series 4 still has the LTE so you can take it out without your iPhone whilst still being able to get texts and all other notifications you would on your phone as well as make and receive calls. The new speaker allows much clearer and louder Siri chats and phone calls more comfortable.
Unfortunately despite all the new bells and whistles Apple have not been able to upgrade the user experience with regards to the 24-48 hours Battery life, which still remains to be a pain in the butt for most users.
Sorry to say, that simply is not good enough, we would expect at least 60-72 hours to make this watch a “perfect 10”. Until that time it is probably the closest watch to bridge the gap to that “perfect 10” suitable for most of us out there.

The new Samsung Galaxy Watch exemplifies evolution and not revolution succeeding the Gear S3 and coming hot on the heels of the Series 4 watch mentioned above, making it one of the best smartwatches available in the market at the time of writing. Having both Android and iOS system compatibility, it now comes in both 42mm and 46mm sized models.
Samsung incorporates both GPS smartwatch and health/fitness tracking features, with a heart rate monitor as well as highly upgraded Samsung Health software. The watch also allows for the comfort of LTE functionality, so by using a standalone speaker for taking calls from the watch you can achieve an untethered connection. To match the Series 4 from the Apple smartwatch stables it has also received waterproofing and swim tracking features which will help boost up your swim workouts.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch makes good use of running on Samsung’s Tizen OS 4.0 which gives it a more slicker user experience compared to the Google Wear OS. In that regard the Tizen OS appears to be a better alternative to the Google Wear OS. However the current app store has a lot of catching up to do with the likes of the Apple Watch and Wear OS offerings. In the world of tech that can change very quickly as the high quality Spotify app exemplifies with its excellent user experience and offline playback functionality. The popular rotating bezel of the Samsung doubles up to protect the watch screen as well as complimenting one of the largest and best displays available on a smartwatch.
With regards to Battery life again the Samsung scores pretty well with with a very user friendly and respectable 2-4 days for the 42mm version and 5-7 days for the 46mm model. So if you are not so keen on the Wear OS and want to stay away from The Apple Series 4 Watch, then this could be a top contender to grace your wrist instead.

Fitbit Versa: Key specs and features
The Fitbit Versa comes with enhanced design and functionality compared to the first smartwatch released by Fitbit. More significantly the Fitbit Versa is way more affordable than the Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watches. In fact the Versa is more than half the price of the Series 4 watch.
Furthermore the Fitbit Versa series is highly customizable offering a large variety of different finishes and a large collection of watch straps to help mix and match to your achieve your favorite look and feel.
The Fitbit Versa runs all the variety of fitness and sports tracking features that Fitbit has become famous for, except surprisingly, there is no in-built GPS. This can be easily remedied by syncing with your smart phone when you want to track your runs and rides. Not a big issue for many but for the dedicated runner it’s a bit of a nuisance probaly better to do without unless you run with your phone anyway.
The Fitbit OS 2.0 comes with UI revamped to present more insightful analysis to your daily data and easy access to Fitbit Coach and quick reply support for Android phone and iOS users. As before you can download apps and a multitude of watch faces and pay from your wrist using Fitbit Pay. Another new feature is the women’s health tracking which is also available for the Fitbit Ionic watch too.
Now the Big WOW! The battery life of 5+ days on a single charge is the real home run to win potential buyers sitting on the fence in addition to the attractive price. That translates to less to worry about on weekend breaks and much easier sleep tracking. Imagine staying up late to charge your watch so you can track your sleep!

Garmin Forerunner: Key specs and features
Feature check: Storage for 500 songs, offline playlist support for Spotify, Deezer and Heart Radio, Best Multisport tracking, Pool Swim tracking, Heart Rate Monitoring, Sleep Tracking, Stress Mgmt, Calls and Smartwatch Notifications, Fitness Tracker, Garmin Connect, Garmin Pay and LONG Battery life 14+ days single charge.
Garmin is the go-to brand for sports smartwatch junkies since quite a long time now. No matter what sport Garmin will have you well covered. In addition the Garmin 645 seems to have also inherited music features from the Vivoactive 3 Music.
This evolutuion of the Garmin watch adds music this time round making the Garmin more of a direct challenge to the big smartwatch rivals like the Apple Watch, Samsung Gear and Fitbit Ionic more than ever before.
With the Garmin you can potentially benefit with enough storage for 500 songs and offline playlist support for Spotify, Deezer and iHeartRadio. Your own tracks can be uploaded by running Garmin Express on your computer and uploading your own music using the intuitive features.
The Garmin 645 has a nice and attractive stainless steel design with a 1.2 inch 240 x 240 pixel display. Although it is not the brightest or most vibrant for smartphones, but importantly presents strong visibility in most workout conditions, regardless whether you are sweating it out indoors or outside. The Garmin doesn’t have a touchscreen or touchpad, rather is operable by pressing buttons. There are 5 button in all.
Garmin renowned for tracking sop many sports keeps this more or less the same with this 645. However there are some notable exceptions like golf tracking and open water swimming (pool swimming is tracked though).
Heart rate monitoring is pretty good, and the GPS signal reception is second to none. Garmin’s fitness trackers also incorporate stress tracking features. As far as multi-sport smartwatches go, this has got to be the best in our opinion as it evolves step by step into maturity.
The Garmin Forerunner after adding a whole load of smartwatch features can now also be listed as a smartwatch. The Fitness tracking is excellent second to none and Garmin Connect is a useful platform for wellness data from steps and sleep to workouts and stress.
Whats more you can get everything happening on your smartwatch mirrored to your Garmin 645 Forerunner, from calls, alerts, to syncing information on weather and the likes thereof. Not least the battery life is extraordinarily impressive, with up to 14 days on tap even when used hard. This is a seriously serious smartwatch eyeing up to extend its frontiers even more day by day.

Samsung Gear Sport: Key specs and features
Features: GPS, Swimming support, Slimmer than Samsung S3, NFC, Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyro and an ambient light sensor. Samsung Pay, Tizen, Heart Rate monitoring, Samsung Connect.
If you are looking for a smartwatch to help you with sports, then it would not be justifiable not to mention Samsung’s older wearable proven to be a workhorse. Although the Gear Sport is a little smaller than the latest Samsung Galaxy Watch, making it a slightly more comfortable fit in the gym or when out for a run. Whats more it is more affordable,
Samsung has partnered up with Speedo and the Gear Sport with 5 ATM water resistance, along with the Gear Fit2 Pro, are the first devices with the Speedo app making it even more appealing to swimmers. There is GPS for outdoor workouts and tracking functionality. There’s an optical heart rate monitor as well as many other health and fitness apps available as well as the usual smartwatch functions like notifications and music control.
The really cool Spotify app allows you to offline syncing of playlists which is still unavailable with iOS and Wear smartwatches. WEhile it is true currently Tizen doesn’t have so many apps available but it’s got the full Endomondo, MyFitnessPal and Under Armour app suite although Strava is still unavailable.
It appears that the Gear Sport is most probably going to be the next Samsung smartwatch to be discontinued, yet it still offers a great deal of functionality packed within a nice and slim, wearable sports accessory. With a decent deal you can’t go wrong with this watch and in fact is highly recommended.

Skagen Falster 2: Key specs and features
Features: GPS, Google Pay, waterproof, Slim and attractive design, NFC, Heart Rate monitoring, Wear OS, notifications, calories burned, steps, distance
Fossil Group has released a number of Designer smartwatches recently in sync with customer preferences, one of the finest amongst them is the eye-catching Skagen Falster 2. This is a unisex watch due to its medium size at 40mm diameter.
Being Slim and lightweight, the Skagen Falster 2 strikes a cord with those who complain that smartwatches are too bulky. The Falster 2 has a nice 1.19-inch OLED touchscreen packed into a 40mm case. That’s a pretty tight fit as small as any smartwatch out there. Whats more it’s extremely light too. Weighing in at 11mm thick it’s no Daniel Wellington, but it’s as comfortable as any full-screen Wear OS watch out there.
However due to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 processor and 512 MB, 4GB internal storage and Lithium ion battery only a maximum of 24 hours of battery life can be sqeezed out at the very best. That translate to about 6-8 hours of heavy usage with some possible performance issues.
The Falster sports the standard 20mm strap, so you can interchange as much as you want from the hundreds if not thousands of watch straps available to fully customize this little smartwatch wonder.
Despite all if you’re more interested in looking for style first and tech second then that is excellent and there is no blame since the Skagen Falster 2 was specially designed for that and will grace your wrist well enough to be worth your time and hard earned money.
