More about Bulove Watch Review

Welcome to the Best Bulova watch Review featuring the world famous and Best Bulova watch brand. The top Bulova Precisionist is one of the most popular watches made by the well respected 100 rear old watch brand.

The Bulova Precisionist has made its mark in the world of watches and timekeeping mainly due to it’s almost revolutionary precision derived from it’s technology used in the movement.

The big news worth shouting out loud is concerning the technology incorporated into the Precisionist wristwatches. The Bulova Precisionist has a new type of thermo- or temperature-compensated quartz movement, which is a really big thing for the world of watches.

Consequently the Bulova Precisionist watches also include a “continuous” sweep seconds hand, which is highly unusual in the world of watches by itself. That rings a bell, isn’t the smooth sweeping movement of the seconds hand one of the main selling points of the Seiko Spring Drive watches? These watches can be purchased within a price range ranging from around $3K to anything upto $15K and beyond.

WoW that is AWESOME, you can now have that same type of action in this world famous Bulova watch costing only around $250.00. Other Bulova Precisionist watches like the Bulova 97B163 Special Grammy edition can go for around $700 and the Bulova 98B313 for around $825.

Don’t get me wrong! The Bulova Precisionist Review is not saying that a Bulova Precisionist is in any way the match of a Grand Seiko. The point is it is very interesting to see that type of continuous sweep seconds hand which is associated with what we can say are very high end watches, in a watch that is classified as a mass-market timepiece.

These Bulova Precisionist watches are not what you would classify as “HEQ” watches otherwise known as High-End Quartz watches (depending on your definition of HEQ) but Bulova lists some really breathtaking and worthy of further consideration claims for the Precisionist watch, calling it “the world’s most accurate watch with a continuously sweeping second hand”.

Wow now that is quite a big claim and ironically speaking the great irony of watch collecting is that some of the cheapest quartz watches can be much more accurate than even the most expensive high-end mechanical watches manufactured. At the moment the most accurate wrist watches in the market are the radio-controlled “atomic” quartz watches like for example the Casio Waveceptor which is available for around $30.

Just think about this for a minute, the Casio Waveceptor which will cost you about $30.00 will be able to synchronize with the NIST “atomic” clock in the U.S. every night. The NIST “atomic” clock is as accurate as you can get to reference with. So just imagine this, that the Casio Waveceptor does not lose a few seconds every day and nor does it stop automatically after around 48 hours if it is not worn like most mechanical watches do.

Now looking at the Bulova Precisionist, it is not a radio controlled watch at all, it is a HEQ watch which can be said to be a “tweaked” quartz movement. A tweaked quartz movement means it is temperature compensated or has some other features which will make it more accurate than basic quartz watches.

The Bulova watch company has somewhat “tweaked” the quartz crystal and thereby increased the vibrations of the Bulova Precisionist movement so that it has 8 times the frequency of vibration of a standard quartz watch. According to Bulova this facilitates the seconds hand to move at 16 times per second compared to the one beat per second on standard quartz watches where the seconds hand jumps from one second to the next.

In the process of jumping from one second marker to another have you noticed that the seconds hand very rarely meets the seconds markers spot on on the dial. Mechanical watches normally have seconds hands that move around 8 (ETA 2824) to 10 times per second. That is the very fine ticking movement usually seen on most types of mechanical watches.

Looking at 16 beats per second is 960 beats per minute that equates to 57,600 beats per hour, which is approximately double the frequency of the world renowned ETA 2824 movement at 28,800 bph, or 4 kHz as widely used by top watch manufacturers.

Here with the Bulova Precisionist the movement of the seconds hand appears to sweep smoothly around the dial, pretty much like an electric wall clock. That undoubtedly is a true world class achievement to say the least, well worthy of industry recognition.

With the Precisionist movement which as we mentioned earlier is a temperature compensated tweaked quartz movement which due to its nature may show slight aberations under certain temperature and light conditions.

Low and behold in the Bulova Precisionist review we noticed that slight beating or stuttering movements in the Bulova Precisionist seconds hand can sometimes be noticed by the naked eye but only occasionally and only under certain lighting conditions. Just to elaborate a slight ticking motion can be noticed for example when the timepiece is placed under bright sunlight.

The Bulova watch company has however gone further to claim a frequency of 262.144 kHz for the Precisionist movement, although at the moment we are not able to verify that. They say that the “Precisionist offers the highest vibrational frequency available in any watch today” and that the frequency “diminishes the effect of temperature fluctuations and produces extraordinary precision”.

Bulova goes on further to say that most quartz watches work to within 15 seconds per month in accuracy but the Bulova Precisionist is accurate to 10 seconds per year! Wow that is a truly awesome achievement especially when you consider the ultra affordability of Bulova Precisionist watches.

THE BULOVA WATCH REVIEW OF THE COLLECTION

The Bulova Precisionist range of watches is available in four sub brands: the Champlain, Claremont, Longwood and Tanglewood.

The Champlain collection due to the four Allen screws positioned at each corner of the watch can be said to have somewhat a kind of diving watch design. Other than that the watches are quite generic in appearance with very crowded looking watch dials and rathermass market looking in their style and designing. Too many of those types of watches flooding the market.

The Claremont collection is somewhat sporty in appearance. The other two collections are real screaming out loud BLING, faux-diamond encrusted designing and styling which any serious watch collector or enthusiast wouldn’t touch with a barge poll. Unfortunately Bulova (Citizen) have not payed enough attention to the paramount importance of the styling and design elements of their watches. This might be what we feel that Citizen watches neeed to make a serious strategic upgrade to their styling and image to move forward in order to have the knock on effect on Bulova. You would have thought that they would have figured that one out by now.

THE BULOVA WATCH REVIEW CONCLUSION

We have got to give a big thumbs up to Bulova (Citizen) for introducing this almost revolutionary not to say at the very least a very unique movement to market. This has opened up the doors to the masses to have a HEQ and sweeping seconds hand watch available at a very affordable and quitereasonable price. The Bulova Claremont is well worth the financial outlay despite lacking somewhat in styling. Still styling is all relative and this watch may even be really appealing to some. Anyway it is a really good precision timepiece. Something to keep and enjoy.
