Sportswatches for men and the Corum Admiral’s Cup Challenge 44 Watch
The Corum luxury watch brand, founded in 1955 are still considered by many to be young blood within the mens luxury watches making industry, compared to some of the ” old masters” of Swiss horology like Blancpain or Audemars Piguet. However, it is a watch brand with a firmly established portfolio of astonishing collectable and captivating timepieces.
One range in the portfolio of this iconic Swiss brand, the Admiral’s Cup is a Corum classic. First released in 1960, and re-designed in the early 1980’s, it is an ultra sporty but highly functional sports watches for men amongst mens luxury watches. As its name suggests, the range has more than a touch of nautical heritage – the Admiral’s Cup Regatta Offshore Yacht Race being part of it’s inspiration. This sports watch for men is the ultimate sailing timekeeper with functions such as high/low tides, current strengths, lunar cycle and chronometer accuracy and with their famous colourful nautical pennants around the bezel are instantly recognisable.
The Admiral’s Cup is such an extremely successful part of the Corum brand, that it is no wonder that its design team continue to re-visit and update this iconic piece with new features and limited edition models such as the Admiral’s Cup Challenge 44 Black amp; Gold released in 2009.
Measuring 44mm in diameter, the case is crafted from steel which is coated in a choice of either grey or black PVD, this contrasts boldly with the red gold crown and red gold applied markers on the dial, particularly with the black dial version. The three chronograph counters have red gold appliqués and the date indicator is placed at the 4.30 o’clock position. Those much adored nautical pennants are still there, though not in colour, this time they are discreetly monochrome.
The Challenge 44 is Powered by the Calibre CO753 self-winding mechanical movement featuring a unique PVD coated oscillating weight engraved with the Corum name in gold. The famous “key” logo of the brand is also cleverly present in the red gold engraved crown, and on the seconds hand counter weight which takes the shape of the key itself.
With the release of the Corum Admiral’s Cup Challenge 44 black amp; gold, the brand have once again consolidated its position as creators of outstandingly functional but stylish sportswatches for men. Whether you favour the elegantly understated grey dial or the strikingly bold black dial, these limited edition timepieces are highly collectable and desirable and created with undeniable respect for the tradition of the Admiral’s Cup heritage.
